4 Important life learnings – The infinite loop.

  1. The learning never stops – if you have to stay relevant in today’s world , you cannot stop learning. When a person is young and inexperienced , they are more willing to learn and absorb anything that comes their way but when one grows older, with more experience, it becomes difficult to learn new things. Why ? Because the person stops unlearning and learning w.r.t the new environment. The person becomes prejudiced and blocks his/her mind to new discoveries, learnings , inputs. We have seen this in our own industry where lot of traditional advertising / communication agencies are struggling to understand and keep pace with the world of digital and are faltering So beware of falling into this trap of “I know it all” , the world is changing every moment and we have to change, unlearn , learn to stay relevant. Learn from everything around us, learn from inexperienced people also , because they could be better at understanding the new environment.
  2. Learn everything that you can – No task in this new digital world is ever irrelevant for you – whether you are a writer, ideation person, designer, strategist or coder. You will have your core skills , but gain knowledge of everything because every knowledge will sharpen your core skill and help you stay ahead and stay relevant. Steve Jobs had said that his calligraphy skills learnt during college helped him create Apple. Had it not been for that, he would have never visualised Apple the way he did and created a differentiation in the market.
  3. Think with Logic not with Ego – Our Ego is our biggest bottle next to learning and absorbing new things. It doesn’t allow us to rationalise and see things as they are. It blocks our mind and only lets us see things the way it wants us to see – which is often the incomplete picture. Don’t ever have an ego. Think before reacting – whether you are reacting in Ego or taking a factual view. It would change the way you will react and it will change the outcome in your favour always!
  4. And finally last but not the least – Think outcome Always. You are not paid for your effort but your unique knowledge. You gain that unique knowledge with effort but if you are unable to gain that unique knowledge then your effort is not in the right direction. And you should not expect to get paid simply because you are making a lot of Effort !
